About
Emma Huckabee is a 24-year old music studio business owner who loves working with musicians of all ages and backgrounds. Emma has a Bachelor of Arts in Music, graduating magna cum laude, from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She has been teaching in the field of music education for eight years, and has been performing piano since the age of ten.
Emma is the residing music teacher at Bay Montessori School in Lexington Park, Maryland. She teaches private piano in her home studio as well as privately at Bay Montessori. Emma is a member of the Music Teacher’s Association of Southern Maryland, Maryland State Teacher’s Association, and Music Teacher’s National Association.
In addition to teaching, Emma enjoys working as a contractor for event planning businesses MHW Live Music, Lucy Black Entertainment, Dan Goldman Events, as well as local restaurants in SOMD to provide venues and events with live music in the DMV area.
Emma began her piano studies with Southern Maryland teacher Patricia Blanchard from the age of ten through sixteen. Emma then began advanced classical piano education with Brian Ganz, artist-in-residence at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, from the age of sixteen through twenty-two, as well as receiving guidance from Ellington Carthan, Assistant Professor of Music in Jazz and Music Tech at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, at the age of twenty-three.
While working on her music degree at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Emma received voice lessons from Grammy-Award winning Joan McFarland during the entire duration of her college career as well as receiving tutelage in choral studies from Larry Vote. Alongside Emma’s music degree work, she also studied with Patricia Blanchard, taking multiple piano pedagogy courses. Emma has performed as a vocal soloist for St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s performances of Handel’s Messiah, and Faure’s Requiem.
During the years of 2022-2023, Emma served as the music coordinator of Grace and Peace Presbyterian Church and as its choir director for the Gloria Deo Choir. Emma also served as a primary piano accompanist at Grace and Peace from 2015-2023.
Among others, Emma is the winner of the Mattie Key Award in Music at SMCM (2024), winner of the Barbara Bershon Arts Alliance Award in Music at SMCM (2023), 3rd Place winner, Senior Division, in Cosmic Symphony’s Young Artist Concerto Competition (2023), as well as the recipient of the Christine C. Cihlar Memorial Music Scholarship (2020-2023).
